What’d you say if foobar support AirPlay?

Just tried AirFoil, but didn’t like it: quality seems to be not so good when playing locally, sound disappears sometimes (buffering issue?), and unable to use WASAPI output ’cause it crashes AirFoil.

So I’m considering whether to make a streaming solution for foobar with ability to control it from local UI or TouchRemote.

And what do you think?

    Nice Idea!

Wasnt able to Use some AirPlayer at all. Dont really need it, but could be fun / good if you need it 😉

How ever plugin the plugin will work perfectly, i think.

    So yeah nice idea!

That would be awesome. The Airport Express emulator Shareport might be useful.

    Thumbs up!
    Both a server and client?

That would be a killer! just a simple output plugin that can stream to an airport express

I doubt a client would be useful. Foobar already can play it locally, and for remote machines there’s a free AirFoil Speakers (or ShairPort) client.

Also, output plugins are not supported by the public SDK, so there’s no convenient way to implement it.
There’s a streaming API instead, so it can capture and stream whatever is playing.

Just thinking if it would be reasonable to sell such a solution.

It’s precisely what everyone’s waiting for.

I’ve been using airfoil in conjunction with foobar (it’s probably the ONLY feature that is missing for me so far) but as you said, the music chops out WHETHER IT’S MP3 OR WAV OR FLAC, quite unpredictably. Tried everything from increasing local memory resource etc to no avail. I’ve contacted airfoil as well but unsuccessful.

WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT THOUGH, is that using airfoil DECREASES BITRATE. HDCD files that I stream with itunes lights up HDCD logo on my denon av receiver, but not the airfoil.

So please, please make the plugin, you could sell it for nominal fee somehow and I’m sure it will go like a hotcake.

This would be the best plugin for foobar by miles if this worked.

Found this on google. Fuck yes, please do it.

I’ve been using Foobar for several months now, transitioning from Mediamonkey. Despite a lot of searching and using several of the plugins, only recently did I discover Touchremote – on a forum on the Absolute Sound Magazine, no less. Absolutely brilliant to leverage the Apple remote using DACP since I think it’s the one with the best UI and stability. I played with it last night trying to control Foobar doing playback stream capture to a Popcorn Hour C-200 and a WDTV Live Plus. The Foobar control worked perfectly (faster than Itunes too) but the UPNP control of the devices was a little flaky – however, most of that I think is in the device implementation of UPNP. So if you are aiming to make something like this as easy as Airplay I definitely think you should do it and there is a market for it and I’d be willing to pay for it. With all the new DLNA TVs and Blurays and networked receivers being shipped now it would be a great control point with the flexibility of Foobar. Do it! Thanks.

If you did this I would have the perfect media solution!!

I’ve been a dedicated foobar user since 2000 and am in love with TouchRemote. It would absolutely complete my home music setup to have a fooAirPlay working with the remote. Please make it. Would even be willing to sell my first born.

I forgot to mention that whoever wants to attack this problem could use this as inspiration (working source code for a winamp plugin that does exactly this):

It shows even how to do the password protection feature!

fantastic idea, i gave it a try but it kept crashing foobar unfortunately. Hope you can find time to develop this. It would make a great compliment to your already brilliant touch remote!

+1 for a Airplay plugin. This would be one of the best plugins ever.

I would love this! I’ll continue searching the web for one, though. Foobar2000 is way better than iTunes! 😀
